Suffering from complex and chronic pain could take a toll on your everyday routine. Someone with tremendous pain may find it difficult to take over care of their health and hygiene as the pain could restrict movement. According to the reports, pain is common in every 1 in 4 people. Experts refer to pain as an unpleasant experience that may impact the energy of the individual suffering from pain.


Various types of pain


There are two different types of pain:-


Acute Pain

Acute pain is comparatively shorter and may alleviate within a week or 6. It is considered a protective response within the body that leads to injury or inflammation-like pain.


Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is usually long-lasting pain that can stay as long as 3 months. It has a tremendous impact on the usual functioning capability of an individual including the social and psychological well-being of the person.

  • Decreased mobility

  • Affects sleep

  • Decreases the ability to exercise

  • Difficulty in doing household chores

  • Restricts participation in social & community activities

  • Affecting cognitive functioning such as thinking, focusing, and reasoning abilities

  • Affects the appetite


Most common pain – Back pain


Among all the pain, back pain is prevalent among people of all ages. It can be caused due to various conditions including injury, sprain, poor posture, etc. Almost 80% of people must have experienced acute back pain at least once in their lifetime. However, the recovery rate is usually 90% in 2 weeks. The pain generally settles down with common analgesics, ointment, or spray that acts as a muscle relaxant. Only 10% of people might suffer from chronic back pain in the future.


Precautions to be taken


  • Limit your movement or exercising during the acute painful phase.

  • Avoid resting beyond 2 to 3 days. Take ample rest during the crucial phase.

  • Begin exercising under expert supervision after 2 weeks for a speedy recovery.

  • Indulge in stretching and muscle strengthening activities by consulting a physiotherapist.


Ways to manage pain in the initial stage


  • Seek the help of medications

  • See the expert for pain management

  • Indulge in physiotherapy for quick recovery

  • Consider yoga


When the pain kicks in, one has to take the right step and care to ensure the pain doesn’t worsen. Seek help if anyone is dealing with minor or chronic pain before it aggravates to a huge extent.
